Editor's picks

Most looks on Wholefit are put together by an outfit engine and scored on color, dress code, season and price. These are the ones I'd point a friend to first. I go through the catalogue, pick the looks I think work best and write a line on each. When a piece sells out, its look drops off this page and I pick another.

Olive and brown is my favorite fall pairing. It looks richer than black and grey and is just as easy to wear. Ribbed knit, high-waisted cords and flat shoes, all from one store, for well under $400.

A corduroy jacket over a check shirt is about as classic as fall gets. Everything but the shoes is green or brown, so nothing fights, and the navy sneakers stop it from looking too serious.

A black dress with brown boots instead of black ones. It's a small change, but it makes the dress work in daylight. The tote is the one warm color.

Three pieces and no jacket, and it still looks dressed up. Dark raisin cashmere with charcoal flannel is quieter than navy and grey. The velvet loafers make it an evening look.

A white shirt with a long black skirt is hard to get wrong. The green liner jacket keeps it from feeling formal, and flat shoes mean you can walk to dinner.

A camel knit, a red corduroy overshirt and carpenter jeans. The navy New Balance keep it relaxed. It's what I'd wear to a long lunch that turns into dinner.

Loafers instead of heels make a black dress office-ready. Bring a cardigan if your office runs cold. The brown leather and the orange bag keep it warm rather than severe.

Navy and denim with brown trousers: blue on top, earth tones underneath. It's the simplest way to look put together without thinking about it. The beanie is optional.

Cream, green and brown, all soft textures: merino, a cable-knit polo and pinwale cord. Cream boots instead of black keep it light. It's good for Thanksgiving or any slow weekend.

A work outfit that doesn't look like one. A Harrington jacket instead of a blazer, a dress shirt and blue trousers, then leather boots to finish. Easy for a long day with a commute.

Denim jacket, black dress, sneakers. It's an old formula because it works. The blue sneakers pick up the denim, so the outfit hangs together.

A date night look for under $550. A grey jacket over a blue short-sleeve oxford, black chinos and slip-ons. It's relaxed, but clearly made an effort.
